A residence permit is a document, providing a foreigner with the right to reside in the Republic of Latvia for a definite or indefinite period. The residence permit makes your life much easier if you want to live, work or study in Latvia or other Schengen countries. Currently there are two kinds of residence permit available: permanent and temporary ones.

As I am Latvian I can tell you about immigration in Latvia. It is an immigration program where investor buys real estate in the Latvia and afterwards receives official residency permit in Latvia for up to 5 years.
